Traveling to an unknown place can be overwhelming, and you may have many questions. We’ve put together a Q&A list with helpful answers to common concerns to ease any worries. We hope you find it useful!
Planning:
-
A curated cycling holiday is a cycling trip designed to combine both the cycling experience and the joy of vacation.
The term "curated" means we carefully design, select, and arrange every aspect of your experience. Each element, from routes to accommodations, cultural recommendations, and local insights, is handpicked to ensure a seamless and unforgettable holiday.
-
Our tours are suitable for intermediate to experienced cyclists. If you're a beginner, don't worry. We understand that Colombian mountains can be challenging, so we'll design something that suits you.
-
Unlike a training camp focusing solely on enhancing fitness and performance, a cycling holiday offers a more well-rounded experience that includes cultural expeditions and other activities. With a cycling holiday, you can indulge in more than performance improvement.
-
Technically, yes, you can. BUT there are some important things to consider. Road safety can be a concern, and you might miss some local nuances. With our tours, you'll have all the support you need if anything unexpected happens. Our local experts can guide you to the best spots and ensure an unforgettable adventure.
-
Actually, not anymore. Despite what you may have seen on Narcos, the country has undergone a transformation in reputation and image, mainly due to the popularity of cycling.
-
Our cycling tours may not be suitable for non-cyclists. Friends or family members who don't ride would need to make their own arrangements to explore the city or follow the tour at a very slow pace in a vehicle.
-
Our priority is providing a cycling holiday experience beyond performance and FTP gains. We showcase the diverse Colombian culture, the finest cuisines, the coolest cafés, and emerging brands. We aim to highlight this vibrant culture's modern and rapidly-evolving side rather than traditional clichés like other companies.
-
Absolutely! We fully support individuals on their journey of self-discovery. We can arrange a single room for you.
-
Our tours are designed for intermediate or advanced cyclists who can comfortably pedal for 4-6 hours. If you're new to cycling and prefer a more relaxed experience, we can customize routes to suit your skill level better.
-
We focus on providing the most comfortable and relaxing stay possible, specializing in 4-star hotels and luxurious villas. In smaller towns where these options may not be available, we will work to find the next best alternative for you.
-
No, not really. Our main goal is to offer a curated experience by only recommending trusted accommodations.
-
Let us know your ideal tour duration, and we'll find the perfect option. Please plan to stay for the full tour, as joining halfway or leaving early isn't possible.
-
The tour includes vehicle support, local guides, daily bike wash, and basic maintenance. Accommodation is provided with daily breakfast, lunches during each ride. Airport transfers of luggage and bike are included. A welcome dinner is organized to meet and greet. Sports massage, nutrition, team kit, and travel accident insurance are also provided. IVA (local taxes) are also included.
-
Your flights, alcoholic drinks, and dinners beyond the welcome dinner. You can also opt for additional add-ons like professional photography, bike rental, and single-room occupancy.
-
Our tours already have basic travel and accident insurance included. However, we recommend all riders get extra travel insurance. For more details about our insurance, feel free to reach out.
-
Yes, it's possible. However, bringing your bike to ensure a comfortable fit is better. This is especially important when riding in the high mountains to avoid unnecessary suffering.
-
Simply select the tour you would like to join, fill out the form, and we'll email you all the necessary details. We kindly ask for a 30% non-refundable deposit of the total cost to secure your place.
Riding:
-
"No drops" is the answer, meaning we make sure no one is left behind. If someone needs a break or has a mechanical issue, we wait for them. But if you're feeling competitive, go for those KOMs/QOMs on the climbs! We usually regroup at the top to continue the ride together.
-
No need to worry - we've got you covered. We offer nutrition options from Titanium and Going, well-known Colombian sports nutrition brands. This includes energy bars, gels, hydration, and snacks. If you want the full list, just ask, and we'll provide all the details.
-
Our ride and break duration typically depends on the route and your skill level. On average, we ride for 4-6 hours and take 1-2 hours for lunch and rest stops.
-
Altitude sickness can affect people differently, so we recommend taking a day or two to get used to it before your first ride. This will help to ensure that you have the best possible experience.
-
Our team of skilled mechanics is always ready to get their hands dirty. You won't need to fix your own flats; put it that way.
-
Starting early, around 7-8 am, is recommended to beat the morning traffic and avoid potential stress. Colombians are known for being early risers, so you'll be in good company.
-
We'll always motivate you to get through your suffering. But if it's all too much, jump in the car. There's no shame in that.
-
In Colombia, the weather is influenced by geography and altitude. Bogota experiences an eternal autumn/fall with temperatures averaging 14ºC (58ºF). Short-sleeve jerseys are fine, but bringing a rain jacket and/or shoe covers for unexpected showers is advisable. Other regions, such as Zona Cafetera, Tolima, or Santander, are relatively warmer, so pack for spring and autumn/fall weather. A full winter kit isn't necessary.
-
At the moment, we only offer road cycling tours. However, if this changes in the future, we will make sure you're the first to know.
-
Unfortunately, yoga classes are not part of the package. However, you'll be glad that Maya, a certified yogini, is more than happy to lead stretching sessions after long days of riding.
-
Relax and recover with a massage from our Grand-Tour certified masseuse. We're also happy to suggest local sightseeing, top restaurants, or other activities.
